IMPORTANT INFO: Admission with a Saturday ticket is not possible on Sunday. Admission with a Sunday ticket is not possible on Saturday. We ask for your understanding.
The weather forecasts for the upcoming Ski World Cup weekend in Adelboden are challenging. Those responsible - FIS, Swiss Ski and the Ski World Cup Adelboden AG - have jointly decided to swap the disciplines in order to maximize the chances of holding fair races. The slalom will now take place on Saturday, January 11, 2025, while the Giant Slalom classic will be postponed to Sunday, January 12, 2025.
Tickets already purchased at Tickets remain valid for the respective race day and cannot be exchanged. A limited number of Fan ZoneTickets tickets are still available for Sunday and can only be purchased online. There will be no box offices on either race day.
With this adjustment, the organizers are creating optimal conditions for an exciting race weekend. The FIS, Swiss Ski and the Ski World Cup Adelboden AG appeal to all ski fans to support the flexibility and fairness that make the sport so special. Whether it's the slalom racers on Saturday or the giant slalom racers on Sunday - your enthusiasm and applause make Adelboden what it is: a unique highlight in the World Cup calendar. Together we will ensure that this weekend is an unforgettable experience despite the weather-related adjustments.
There will also be a varied program off the slopes throughout the weekend. On Friday, January 10, 2025, from 4 pm, the "Athletes' Village" will open, where fans can experience athletes up close. At 5.15 pm, the band "Au Revoir Legs" will provide musical highlights with a live concert on the main stage at Chuenis-Dörfli. From 7 pm, Daniel Yule, Ramon Zenhäunsern, Loïc Meillard and Marco Odermatt will share exciting insights into their lives as athletes in live interviews. This will be followed by the Drawing of numbers for the Giant Slalom.
Preparations for the World Cup races at Chuenisbärgli are in full swing. The slope team provides an exclusive insight into the current status and what is still to come. From the delivery of materials in the fall to the successful start of snowmaking and the final construction measures - everything is on track. The slope preparation is now entering the final phase before the snow inspection by FIS takes place at the beginning of January.
What is the status of preparations for the World Cup race at Chuenisbärgli?
The preparatory work got off to a good start in the fall: All 600 nets for the slope protection were delivered to various depots on the mountain, as was the material for the irrigation and the gate poles. Avalanche barriers were installed for the steep sections to enable direct snowmaking and thus minimize the effort required to push the snow away. The Prinoth World Cup slope machine arrived at the end of October and waited for the first snow so that it could be driven onto Chuenisbärgli . Thanks to the wet fall, the conditions for snow production were ideal. A big Merssi to the mountain railroads, who did an excellent job as the people responsible for the snowmaking - they got the maximum out of it.
How was the snow start and how is the slope prepared?
We started making snow at the end of November - the temperatures were ideal for this. It was particularly pleasing that this year we were also able to produce snow in the lower area, on the finish slope. In addition, Mrs. Holle supported us with some additional natural snow. Although there has been less natural snow so far, we were able to produce more snow thanks to the cooler temperatures. A World Cup race on pure natural snow is practically impossible - the FIS requirements can only be met with produced snow.
We have already reached our snow production targets. We base this on the average values of the last five years. These values give us a solid orientation - we don't make snow at random, but based on experience. This gives us a certain degree of certainty, but until race day it remains exciting to see how the snow conditions will develop.
The construction work on the piste is also progressing: all the camera towers along the race track and the two viewing platforms for the trainers have already been installed. We are concentrating the trainers on these platforms to give them a better overview of the piste.
What's coming up in the weeks leading up to the races?
The actual slope preparation will begin in the coming weeks: the snow will be tamped down to create an even and challenging route that follows the natural contours of the terrain. The snow groomers are equipped with GPS snow measurement systems to precisely monitor the snow depth. At the same time, we are making sure that all safety precautions, such as padding the camera and trainer towers, are in place to ensure a safe official start to the commissioning of the World Cup slope at Chuenisbärgli . In addition, information events with the army, civil defense and volunteer teams will take place over the next few weeks to ensure that the race runs smoothly. Around 300 volunteers will be working on the piste during the race days. At the beginning of January, the snow inspection will be carried out by FIS, where the snow cover density, safety aspects and other requirements will be carefully checked.
Due to the high demand for the coveted Giant Slalom-Tickets , we are offering the new category Chäla standing room only. Experience the racing spectacle on Saturday, January 11, 2025 a little away from the World Cup village and enjoy the unique view directly at the edge of the piste with a big screen. Just a 40-minute walk from the World Cup village, the Chäla zone awaits you with a great atmosphere and food stands. You can even bring your own raclette or fondue to enjoy. The Tickets are limited - so be quick and secure your place in the Chäla zone. Holders of a Fanzone-Tickets are still very welcome in the Chäla zone.

Peter Schmid is the man who takes ski fans behind the scenes of the Ski World Cup Adelboden and provides exciting guided tours - and also brings our mascot "ds Chueni" safely through the crowds. In addition to his involvement in the World Cup village, he also works as a mountain guide and knows the most beautiful tours in the region. In this interview, he reveals what visitors should not miss out on and what special experiences he recommends.
What are the highlights for you on a tour of the World Cup village? Which places or experiences should visitors definitely not miss?
On the guided tours across the World Cup village, we visit almost every corner of the action. We start with a short, motivating film sequence, after which we are greeted by people from Race Office and get a first glimpse behind the scenes of the organization. On the way, we see how the ambulance is set up for visitors and also learn how the rescue of fallen riders works.
After "combing" through the festival catering facilities and visiting the television stations, we reach the top of the grandstand as the highlight of the tour. Here, with the best view of the steepest finish slope in the world, we provide our visitors with lots of interesting facts about the race.
At the end of our tour, we also meet with one of the race directors. How do these tipping poles actually work, how are the slopes made race-ready and what are the working hours of the slope workers like? We will get answers to all these questions.
You not only take care of the guided tours, but also of our mascot "ds Chueni". What do you have to do to get the mascot through the crowds safely and well?
You have to know that "ds Chueni" has very limited vision in his costume, he wears oversized shoes and has a 3.5 kg head on his shoulders! So it's up to me to bring "ds Chueni" safely and always at the right time to where he needs to be. Communication between us is difficult, as he can only hear a little in his outfit. So we had to quickly find a solution to make ourselves understood in the crowd and in the hustle and bustle of the action.
Thanks to my work as a guide in the World Cup village, I have the necessary knowledge to always be able to use a "sneaky route" somewhere in order to arrive at the next location on time! My connections to the various contacts are also a great advantage in order to be able to do this difficult job!
It also becomes difficult when "ds Chueni" is put under pressure by certain people who can no longer control themselves in all respects during the course of the day.
In addition to your work as a guide in the World Cup village, you are also a guide in the mountains in both summer and winter. Which tour should our ski fans definitely have experienced at least once?
Climbing our local mountain on skis is an experience in a class of its own!
The 3243 m high Wildstrubel offers everything that good touring skiers are looking for - steep slopes, challenging passages and a tremendous descent, which you first have to earn with an exhausting ascent!
The view from the summit stretches from Mont Blanc to all the 4000-meter peaks in the Valais in the south and to the Black Forest and the Vosges mountains in the north!
If you want to undertake a challenging hike in our region in summer with a sensational overnight stay, you should head for the uniquely situated and quaintly furnished Lohnerhütte.
The next day, a very exposed path leads to Engstligenalp.
For experienced mountaineers, the ascent of the large Lohner via the west ridge from the Lohnerhütte would also be a very worthwhile destination!
How many people are working on the slopes? Which TV stations are on site? How much does the entire grandstand weigh? The answers to many of these questions can be found on the guided tours on January 7, 8 and 9, 2025 in the World Cup village. Around the finish area of the Ski World Cup Adelboden , sports enthusiasts and interested parties will experience first-hand what drives the organization a few days before the races and learn a few anecdotes from the ski box. The number of participants is limited, so it's worth registering early.
Advance ticket sales for the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Adelboden 2025 start on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 8 a.m. The following categories are available online:
Have you always wanted to work as a volunteer at Chuenis ? Manu knows what it takes. Together with Martin Hari, she coordinates and organizes the Volunteers, which provides the unique groove around the race weekend. In this interview, Manu tells us what your role at Chuenis could be and why you should sign up to help out at the race weekend on January 11 and 12 in Adelboden .
What are the different tasks of a Volunteers at the Ski World Cup in Adelboden?
The various tasks of a Volunteers are very comprehensive. From the perspective of a visitor to the race weekend, you come across them everywhere and all the time. The first thing you notice is the Volunteers stewards. They are responsible for directing visitors and traffic to the right place. At the entrance to the site, you are greeted by the ticket office volunteers, Tickets who check the tickets and hand over the wristbands. At a small refreshment stop before the start of the race, you meet the catering volunteers, who make up almost a third of all volunteers. There are many of them at the front but also countless in the background. Afterwards, the visitors make their way to the grandstand or the fan zones, where they meet our piste volunteers, who all have different tasks. We also have people who are responsible for waste management, who prepare the lunch bags or who run the coffee bar in Reichenbach.
What are your tasks in the run-up?
Together with Martin Hari, I am responsible for Volunteers . I organize and take care of the catering volunteers and Martin takes care of everyone else. In summer, we contact the clubs or Volunteers that have been helping out for several years. We see who is back and who can volunteer on which day. We then take stock of the situation and decide on the specific shifts. It is important that everyone receives the right information at the right time and knows when, where and how long their deployment will last, who their contact person will be, what their clothing is, where their accommodation is and where they can find a parking space. Our tasks also include organizing hygiene, youth protection and catering training courses, which we carry out with the respective managers and clubs. Every year we organize a big kick-off for department heads and volunteer managers.
What are your tasks during the event?
It is important to me that we welcome as many Volunteers as possible in person at the event. With more than 1600 shifts, this is not always possible, but we try to be on site for as short a time as possible. We give them the necessary documents and put a coffee in their hands for an early start in the morning. During their assignment, we are there for questions and concerns, whether by phone or on site at Race Office. It can always happen that someone is ill, has to leave early or has not yet found accommodation, in which case we are responsible for reorganizing. If we have worked well in advance and planned the reserves correctly everywhere, we also have time to watch part of the race during the event. =)
What is your personal highlight of the race weekend in terms of Volunteers?
I had to think about this question for a moment and realized that there is not a single highlight. It's the small encounters with people. Seeing how they put themselves into the day and night shifts, even if there are sometimes capricious weather conditions. To see how they "work hard" during the race weekend because they know that everything has to run smoothly. Every year I am impressed anew by this overriding team spirit. When everyone heads home again on Sunday, I sometimes feel a little wistful. Over the years, I have remembered so many wonderful stories and encounters. I think seeing what is possible when lots of people come together and want to do something good is one of the best things, so that's my highlight.
Why should I register as a volunteer for #CHUENIS25 on January 11 and 12, 2025?
I think I can follow on from the previous answer. This packed cauldron, this breathtaking atmosphere, which is always emphasized by the ski cracks, is unique and so electrifying. I often get the feedback from Volunteers that it was magical. Knowing what you have achieved and being able to look back on a successful ski festival on Sunday evening, which can never be repeated in the same setting, is a unique feeling and an unforgettable memory. I think it's a mixture of this unique event in this mountain world and being on the road together and putting something together.
Zoé Chastan is the general communications manager for alpine skiing at Swiss Ski and is out and about with the Swiss ski cracks almost all year round. In her job, she keeps the communication threads of the Swiss alpine athletes together, coordinates and communicates. In our Chuenis section "3 questions for", she looks back on the past winter, tells us what she particularly likes about coming home and reveals what her day-to-day work looks like during the summer months.
What was your highlight in winter 2023/24?
A highlight of every winter is certainly the Bernese Oberland race week with the stops in Adelboden and Wengen. For us, there is nothing better emotionally than being able to race in front of a home crowd. The races in Aspen in the USA were certainly also special, where we took all the victories and a total of five podium places in the three days of racing.
What do you particularly enjoy in summer after a hard winter?
Just being able to be at home again. Spending time with family and friends and cooking whatever you fancy.
A little outlook: Are you already busy preparing for the coming winter season? What does this work look like?
It feels like one season flows seamlessly into the next. We are already fully immersed in the 2024/25 season. At the moment, it's more about inquiries regarding projects and events with the athletes over the summer months as well as media training with the younger athletes and simple back-office matters.

Sepp, you've been working as a speaker for the Adelboden World Cup for years: how did this come about and what fascinates you about your job that you're still doing it?
The involvement in Adelboden was a great coincidence. I was asked to be the speaker for the Swiss JO Championships in Eriz. Due to a lack of snow, the organizers around Samy Gugger had to move the event to Adelboden on the Tschentenalp. My voice was discovered and hired for the upcoming World Cup races. The fascination of "Chuenis" is this truly unique atmosphere in the bubbling cauldron. I always say: you can't describe this incredible ambience, you have to experience it. Over time, I have developed a healthy addiction to witnessing and commentating on this spectacle from the front line!
What has been your highlight over the years?
There are of course various highlights. In sporting terms, the Swiss successes were always the icing on the cake. I have very fond memories of Didier Cuche's success and Marc Berthod's sensational victory in the slalom with start number 60. After the first run, the man from Graubünden was 27th and then rolled up the field from behind. As an encore, he won the Giant Slalom classic at "Chuenis" the following year. Of course, the triple in the last three years by my namesake Marco Odermatt was the absolute highlight, which is very difficult to top. In terms of the supporting program, we were the first World Cup organizer to play music during the race. At first we were on the road with a 6-man orchestra. For years now, we have had DJ Nelly, who plays country-specific music to give the athletes an extra boost. Then there was the public draw, which reached its climax on the Märitplatz with the Flying Fox, where the athletes were "flown" onto the stage. This was also a unique event within the Ski World Cup.
What sports do you enjoy besides ski racing? What sports do you follow in the summer?
In addition to ski racing, football is my great passion. I have the privilege of accompanying FC Lucerne as a radio reporter for the two private radio stations in Central and Sunshine. Here, too, I work at the microphone with a lot of passion and enthusiasm. The same maxim applies as when I'm a speaker in the Ski World Cup: euphoria yes - chauvinism no!
And what do you like more about summer than winter? What do you do in summer?
I love all four seasons and am happy to be active depending on the season. I can often be found in the mountains. In recent years, my sporting activities in summer have shifted more from biking to hiking.
Let's take a look ahead: What does it mean to you to have your voice "immortalized" on the adventure trail at Chuenisbärgli ?
I am very pleased that my voice will be immortalized on the adventure trail. This can certainly also be seen as an appreciation of my work on the microphone at Adelboden over the years.
Sepp Odermatt, thank you very much for the interview.
Whether on skis or on foot - the Adelboden World Cup slope is also an experience for young and old after the event and is accessible in winter and summer. From July 2024, Chuenis fans will find interactive, digital and barrier-free stations on the newly designed trail between the start house and finish area. The new adventure trail provides plenty of background information about the event, its history and dimensions, making it an entertaining hike and an adventure for the whole family. Stay tuned!
Do you know our Place of Fame? Traditionally, a footprint is made of all Chuenis winners immediately after their triumph. This is immortalized true to the original on two huge blocks of stone on the Adelboden village square.
