In February 2004 the foundation stone was laid for all past and future winners of the AUDI FIS Ski World Cup Adelboden to be immortalised in rock. Piero Gros (ITA, winner 1975), Michael of Grünigen (SUI, 1993 and 1996), Hermann Maier (AUT, 1998, 1999 and 2001) and Hans Knauss (AUT, 2003) were the first to have their feet cast into two powerful rocks by native artist Björn Zryd and now shows a unique piece of ski history.
On Saturday, 25 September 2004 the place of fame was officially inaugurated on the Adelboden village square in the presence of past winners Didier Cuche (SUI, 2002), Hans Enn (AUT, 1985), Léo Lacroix (FRA, 1963 and 1965), Eberhard Riedel (GDR, 1961), Ludwig Leitner (GER, 1960), Sepp Behr (GER, 1959) and Roland Bläsi (SUI, 1957). At 2.00pm the winners mentioned above presented themselves at the village square to their enduring public. The official opening of the Place of Fame followed the casting of their feet with autograph signing, live entertainment by Rosso’s and the continuous supply of food and beverage. The Place of Fame is now proudly exhibited for all to see in the Adelboden village square.
